California Bridging Course
On 26-29 October 2026, we will be running a Bridging Course at the Napa Valley Wine Academy.
The step from WSET Diploma to the MW Study Programme is one of the biggest in wine education. Our Bridging Course is designed to help you understand what the MW Study Programme really demands from candidates before you fully commit.
Applying for the Master of Wine Study Programme is an exciting step, but it is also a significant commitment, not just financially but also academically. It demands far more than advanced wine knowledge; it requires analytical thinking, disciplined study, and the ability to construct clear, evidence-based arguments under pressure.
Many candidates complete the WSET Diploma believing they are ready for the next step, only to discover that the expectations of the IMW Study Programme are fundamentally different.
Our Bridging Course helps you understand those expectations before you apply, giving you a realistic picture of the programme and the confidence to begin your MW journey.
One of the most common misconceptions is that success in the MW Study Programme comes from knowing more facts.
In reality, successful candidates think differently.
You’ll need to:
These are skills that can be developed – but they require practice.
Over many years of teaching and mentoring Master of Wine candidates, Natasha and Cathy recognised the same pattern.
Talented graduates from WSET or other pathways in wine education often struggled not because they lacked knowledge, but because they had never been exposed to how MW examiners expect candidates to think.
The Bridging Course was created to bridge that gap.
Over four intensive days, you’ll explore practical tasting, theory, exam technique, and the mindset required to approach the MW Study Programme with confidence.
Our October Bridging Course takes place at the Napa Valley Wine Academy, providing an immersive environment focused entirely on preparation for the Master of Wine Programme.
Small classes allow for discussion, individual feedback and close interaction with both educators throughout the course.
This course is ideal if you:
